Flat roofs

Insulating flat roofs with mineral wool is an effective way to improve the thermal insulation of buildings, leading to energy savings and improved comfort for users.

Due to the relatively high loads that mineral wool on flat roofs is subjected to (assembly work, precipitation, equipment installed on the roof, e.g. solar panel systems), and to minimize potential thermal bridges, double-layer mineral wool systems are most often used: the bottom one with lower density and a lower heat transfer coefficient, and the top one, offset from the bottom one, with high resistance to compression and point loads.

Mineral wool used on flat roofs, in addition to the many advantages that mineral wool has, is primarily characterized by a low heat transfer coefficient (λ) (especially the bottom layer in a double-layer system) and very good strength parameters: resistance to compression and point loads.

Components of a typical flat roof system with thermal insulation from mineral wool:

  1. Mineral wool as thermal insulation material: In this system, the main component of thermal insulation is mineral wool. It is a material with excellent insulating properties, effectively reducing heat transfer.
  2. Waterproofing: For waterproofing on flat roofs, PVC, TPO membranes, or bituminous felts are most often used, protecting against moisture penetration into the roof structure.
  3. Vapor barrier: Protects the roofing system from moisture penetrating into the roof structure from the building.
  4. Drainage systems: Drain rainwater from the roof.

Applications:

  1. Commercial and industrial buildings: Insulating flat roofs with mineral wool is commonly used in commercial, office, and industrial buildings where there is a need to maintain a constant temperature inside the building.
  2. Residential buildings and public facilities.
  3. Terrace roofs: Insulation with mineral wool on flat roofs is also used on terrace roofs, where access to the roof space is used as additional usable space.
  4. Modernization of existing buildings: This system can also be successfully used for the modernization of existing buildings, improving their thermal insulation.
